Obituary for Norma Simmons

Norma Jean Simmons, 71, of Philipsburg, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 at her home. Born January 19, 1947 in Philipsburg, she was a daughter of the late James R. Shimmel & Velda J. (Myers) Shimmel Kreuz. Norm was a 1964 graduate of Philipsburg High School and was a member of the First Church of Christ, Philipsburg. She enjoyed gardening, bingo, playing cards and slot machines, and watching Lifetime & Hallmark movie channels. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She was so proud of their accomplishments and achievements. On April 25, 1969 in Bellefonte, she married Harry F. Simmons, who passed away May 23, 2000. Norm is survived by two daughters Bobbi Ann Harpster and her husband John of Glass City and Carrie Lyn Hutton and her husband Jim of Gearhartville; a brother James R. Shimmel and his wife Janet of Wallaceton; a sister Helen J. Granville and her husband Bill of Philipsburg; four step sisters June Hughes, Roseanne Dixon, Susan Braniff and her husband Gary and Virginia Jackson and her husband Richard; 5 grandchildren Taylor Harpster, Macy Harpster and her fiancé Aaron Neideigh, Johnny Harpster, Casey Hutton and her companion Todd Emigh and Jamie Krisher and her husband Brad; 5 great grandchildren Brady Emigh, Aubrey Krisher, Bella Emigh, Bryce Krisher and Carter Krisher; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Norm was preceded in death by her step father Paul A. Kreuz, a brother Paul J. “Buck” Shimmel and her long-time companion Ed Daniel. A funeral service will be held at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 11am with Pastor Ryan Parish officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 11 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions in Norm’s memory may be made to the First Church of Christ, 1437 Tyrone Pike, Philipsburg, PA 16866. There was never a dull moment, especially when Bob & Care pulled their many pranks on her. She will be missed by all who knew her.
