Obituary for James Mort

James L. Mort, 76, of West Decatur, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Penn Highlands Clearfield. Born January 29, 1942 in Philipsburg, he was a son of the late George W. & Minnie M. (Miller) Mort. Jim was a 1960 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School and was a licensed blaster at Senex Explosives, Osceola Mills, for 36 years. A veteran of the US Army, he served during the Vietnam Era. Jim enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. On May 19, 1967 in West Decatur, he married Lois (Thompson) Mort, who survives at home. Jim is also survived by two sons John Michael Mort and his wife Alicia of Centre Hall and Curtis Dale Mort of Altoona; a half-brother William T. Newman of Milesburg; three half-sisters Ruth Elizabeth “Betty” Weller of Julian, Joyce McCloskey of Bellefonte and Linda Basom of Newport; and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother Joseph Lee Newman. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Honoring Jim’s request, there will be no public viewing. Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to the Clearfield County SPCA, 275 21st St. Clearfield, PA 16830. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.dahlgren-spewock.com.
