Obituary for Charles McCartney

Charles O. McCartney, 88, of Gearhartville, Philipsburg RD, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 15, 2017 at his residence. Born February 2, 1929 in Glasgow, he was the son of the late Terry and Annie (Gates) McCartney. Charles was a graduate of Philipsburg High School and was a heavy equipment operator. He was also a past Decatur Twp. Supervisor. Charles was a member of the New Life Center, Philipsburg, the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Glendale Sportsmans Association. He was a lifetime member of the Gearhartville Sportsmans Club. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War. On November 9, 1953 in Gearhartville, he married Emma Jean Perks, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter Alice Ferguson and husband Barry, three sons Charles “Terry” McCartney and wife Kimberly, David McCartney and Timothy McCartney and wife Alice Jane; 19 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Penny A. Mondock, a brother Harold T. McCartney and a sister Verna Ball. A funeral service will be held at the New Life Center, 111 S. Second St. Philipsburg, PA on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. John T. Dill officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at the Philipsburg Cemetery. Friends will be received at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N Centre St. Philipsburg, on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 6-8pm and at the New Life Center on Wednesday, September 20 from 10 until the hour of service at 11. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charles’s memory may be made to the New life Center, 111 S. Second St. Philipsburg, PA 16866.
