Obituary for William "Bill" Smith Jr.

William A. “Bill” Smith Jr., 59, of Morrisdale, passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. Born on March 20, 1962 at Centre Community Hospital in State College, he was the son of William A. Smith Sr. who survives of Pine Glen and the late Delores (Danko) Smith. Bill was a 1980 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School and received his Electrician certification from Vo-Tech. Bill was proud to serve in the US Navy from 1982 to 1986, where he was an AMS Aircraft Systems Organizational Maintenance Technician. He was a jet mechanic for F-14’s and for the VF-142 Ghostriders on the “Ike” D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier. Bill was control room operator at the power plant in Shawville, until his retirement in 2019. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of IBEW Local 459. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, camping and being the family handy man. Bill was married to Wanda (Cunningham) Smith, who survives at home along with their beloved German Shephard “Lincoln”. Also surviving are his children Amanda Smith of Philipsburg, Kristina Smith and companion Alex Exarchos of Lemont, William A. Smith III of Port Matilda, Brian Kostyak and wife Deann of Clearfield, Melissa Folmar and husband Jake of Philipsburg, Melinda Hanes and husband Martin, MeKayla Ahlberg and fiancé Elyssa Ehredt and MeLesha Ahlberg, all of Altoona; sisters Ramona Smith of Pleasant Gap and Renee Rager and husband Chuck of Muncy; grandchildren Lauren Williams, Janae Kostyak, Leo Hanes, Ty Magnuson, Liam Folmar and Ryann Folmar and a great grandson Kaden Barndt. He was preceded in death by his mother, a brother Douglas Smith and paternal grandparents Frank and Helen Smith. Honoring Bill’s wishes, a private service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, with Pastor Don Smith officiating. Bill will be laid to rest with military honors at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Port Matilda RD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local veteran organization.
