Obituary for Robert Myers

Robert James Myers, 71, of Gearhartville, Philipsburg RD, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. Born January 20, 1947 in Philipsburg, he was a son of the late Roy E. “Hooksie” Myers & Anna Mary (McDonald) Myers Stover. Robert James was a 1966 graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola High School and retired after 20+ years from the Philipsburg Borough, where he was a Foreman. A veteran of the US Army, he served during the Vietnam Era and earned a Purple Heart. Robert James was of the Episcopal Faith and was a member of the Philipsburg VFW Louis P. Jenkins Post 3450, Philipsburg BPO Elk Lodge #1173 and the Carpathian Club. He also enjoyed hunting, golfing, camping at Black Moshannon with his family and watching Penn State wrestling. On January 20, 1989 in Gearhartville, he married Lois Darlene (Rutter) Myers, who survives at home. Also surviving are two sons Randy Rutter and his wife Patsy of Gearhartville and Eddie Myers and his wife Michelle of Philipsburg; 9 grandchildren Robert McGhee and his wife Ashley, Justin McGhee, Dakota Rutter, Rachel Rutter, Zack Myers, Mercedes Myers, Mackenzie Myers, Robert James Myers II and Alexis Quick and two great grandchildren Raelynn and Wyett McGhee. The last of his generation, he was preceded in death by a son Shawn E. Rutter, a daughter Tracy Lynn McGhee, an infant daughter Christina Myers and 3 brothers Ronald H. Myers, Timothy L. Myers and LeRoy “Eddie” Myers. Funeral Service will be held at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 11:00 am with Pastor Noel Meyers officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday, August 26 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm. Panikhida with Fr. Peter Benyo will be held at 7pm and an Elks memorial service will be at 8pm.
