Obituary for Robert Hummel

Robert L. Hummel, 81, of Philipsburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2018 under the care of hospice at Greenhills Village (Wynwood House), State College, PA. Born September 3, 1934 in Philipsburg, he was a son of the late Harry & Erma (Hummel) Pierceson. Bob was a 1953 graduate of Philipsburg High School and a veteran of the US Army. He retired from Penelec and loved wood-working and camping with the Rambling Turtles. He also loved taking trips to Ocean City, MD, and to Disney World with his family. Bob was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg, F&AM Moshannon Lodge #391, Philipsburg BPO Elk Lodge #1173 and Altoona Jaffa Shrine. On February 2, 1962 in Woodland, he married the love of his life Helen J. (Murray) Hummel, who passed away August 29, 2016. Bob is survived by three children and their spouses Tammie Kephart and her husband Brian of Beaver Falls, Cynthia Britten and her husband Randy Fitzgerald of Sevierville, TN and Clifford Lee Hummel of Philipsburg and five grandchildren Dr. Nate Kephart, Adam Kephart, Jessica Britten, Harley Hummel and James Hummel. In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by a son in law Todd Britten and a half-brother Harry Lynn Pierceson. Per Bob’s request, there will be no public visitation or service. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Curwensville. Memorial Contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to Wynwood House Rural Living Inc., c/o Resident Fund, 301 Farmstead Lane, State College, PA 16803 or to 365 Hospice, 220 Regent Court, Suite E2, State College, PA 16801.
