Rella L. Wood, 97, a resident of Madison Heights, Macon, GA, and formerly of Gearhartville (Philipsburg), passed away Monday, January 3, 2022 at her residence in Georgia. Born November 13, 1924 in Philipsburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Rella (Gunter) Bainey. Rella was a 1942 graduate of the Philipsburg High School and retired from the former Philipsburg Hospital, where she worked in Admissions. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Philipsburg and was currently attending Vineville United Methodist Church in Macon. Rella was a member of the prayer group and the United Methodist Women at Trinity, Jaffa Campers of Altoona and the Penn Ramblers of Philipsburg. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross for many years. On August 12, 1943 in Tyrone, she married Donald Wood, who preceded her in death on December 8, 2000. Rella is survived by her son Rev. Dr. Donald R. Wood and his wife Dorothy of Macon, GA, two grandchildren Rev. David Wood and his wife Dr. Hope Wood and Deborah Holt and her husband Dr. Patrick Holt and four great grandchildren Micah Lewis Holt, Hannah Hope Wood, Sarah Rella Wood and Ruth Annette Holt. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters Clara Steel Herman, Aretta V. Fenton and Ruth Gearhart Wood and four brothers Charles Bainey, John Bainey, William Bainey and Alvin Bainey. Friends will be received at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, on Saturday, January 8, from 11am until the hour of service at 12pm. Rella will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Philipsburg Cemetery.
