Obituary for Martin "Jim" Kosut

Martin James Kosut, "Jim", 76, of State College and formerly of West Chester passed away at Mount Nittany Medical Center on Monday, April 18, 2022. He was born in Philipsburg on August 4, 1945, the son of the late Martin "Skip" Kosut and Mildred (Reiter) Kosut who survives.

Jim started his working career as a young boy going throughout the neighborhood asking the neighbors if he could help them. This usually meant getting coal in from their coal sheds to their house, stacking firewood, and shoveling snow. As a teenager, with his purchase of a lawn mower, he was able to mow their lawns, a "job" he thoroughly enjoyed.

While in high school he worked at Ibberson's Drug Store and Ziff's Clothing Store. After graduation from Philipsburg Osceola High School in 1963 he was employed with Morrell Meats in sales before taking a job in State College with Town & Country, an up and coming discount store in Pennsylvania. He eventually transferred from the State College store to the West Chester store. He continued his retail career with ShopRite until his retirement.

It was in West Chester where he met Deborah A. Crouthamel. They were married for 42 years at the time of her death on August 14, 2013.

Jim is survived by his mother, daughter Candace Vollmer, grandchildren Kiley, Justin, Trevor, Ryann, Riley, and Leila and a sister Cathie Kosut.

Jim's hobby since high school was photography, but most enjoyment came from being with his grandkids and especially taking them for donuts.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. He will be laid to rest at the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to the First Lutheran Church, PO Box 377, Philipsburg PA 16866.

Arrangements are under the care of the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, PA 16866. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.dahlgren-spewock.com
