Obituary for Marian Mills

Marian Elaine (Stiver) Mills, of Philipsburg, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at her home. She was born May 30, 1928 at the Altoona Hospital. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Tyrone, and actively worshiped at Calvary United Methodist Church in West Decatur Pa. At Calvary she was a member of the Present Helpers Class, and in the past she served as a Sunday-School teacher and a Vacation-Bible-School teacher. She graduated from Shippensburg University in 1950 with a degree in education. She went on to teach 3rd grade for nine years in the Tyrone School District, and then taught 4th grade for 27 years in the Philipsburg Area School District. Many of her students will remember making popcorn for the first snowfall, singing The Little Drummer boy at Christmas, participating in a taffy pull, and making Easter bonnets for the Easter parade. She enjoyed attending Penn State football games and, after she could no longer attend, she still enjoyed watching them on TV. She stayed active all of her life, and enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends, spending time at her homestead in Warriors Mark, and listening to Tyrone football on the radio. She met Charles B. Mills Jr., while attending Shippensburg University, and went on to marry him on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1958. She is survived by her husband Charles, her daughter Elizabethanne E. Evans and her husband Christopher of West Decatur, and a granddaughter Katelyn E. Evans, whom she adored and was a very big part of her life. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and two nieces.A funeral service will be at Calvary United Methodist Church, 167 Blue Ball Rd., West Decatur on Friday, August 31 at 11:00 am, with Pastor Sarah Kim officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery. A viewing will be held for friends and family at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, August 30 and at the church from 10 to 11 am on Friday, August 31.
