Obituary for Leslie Pryde Jr.

Leslie Pryde Jr., 82, of Black Moshannon, Philipsburg RD, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Hollidaysburg VA Home, Hollidaysburg. Born January 31, 1936 in Philipsburg, he was a son of the late Thomas Leslie & Mary Josephine (Lannen) Pryde. Les was a 1954 graduate of Philipsburg High School and was a life member of Wolf Rock Camp (Black Moshannon). He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the wildlife and nature at Black Moshannon, woodworking (making gun stocks), and spending time with his daughter, grandchildren and family. A veteran of the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, he retired after 24 years of service as a Chief Naval Officer. After retiring from the Navy, he worked in Construction. On October 1, 1960 in Newfoundland, Canada, he married Margaret (Griffin) Pryde, who passed away December 31, 2001. Les is survived by a daughter Karen A. Stine of Black Moshannon; two brothers Thomas Rex Pryde and his wife Janet of State College and David Pryde and his wife Shirley of Black Moshannon; a sister Gayle Doyle and her husband Dan of Jacksonville, FL; and five grandchildren Jacob R. Stine of Clearfield, Kaitlyn R. Stine of Charleston, SC, Juliana J. Stine of Black Moshannon, Christa B. Swoope of Clearfield and Gregory A. Stine Jr. of Charleston, SC. Les was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant daughter Kathy and a sister Norma Jean Barber. A memorial service will be held at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 2:00pm with Fr. William R. Walker officiating. Burial will be private at Beaver Cemetery, Black Moshannon. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, June 29 from 1 to 2pm. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard. Memorial contributions in Leslie’s memory may be made to the family to be used for the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.Online condolences to the family may be made at www.dahlgren-spewock.com
