Obituary for Laura Muir Albert

Laura Anne (Muir) Albert, 59, of Chester Hill, passed away at her home on Thursday, March, 31, 2022, surrounded by her family after living for twelve years with two different types of cancer. Born on August 13, 1962, in Philipsburg, she was a daughter of Linda (Tobias) Muir of Philipsburg and the late Leon C. Muir. Laura was a 1980 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola High School and a 1984 graduate of I.U.P., where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Upon receiving her teacher’s certification in 1985, she taught 7th & 8th grade earth, space, and life science at the former P-O Junior High and at the P-O Middle School. Second only to her love of her family and her faith was her love of teaching. Laura was a member of the G-Free Church and had also taught Sunday School. Her well-worn Bible was a testament to her Faith. On May 16, 1986, in Winchester, VA, she married Drew E. Albert, who survives at home. Together they enjoyed spending time with their children, watching them at their sporting events, relaxing at the family camp on the Clarion River, and family vacations at Allegany State Park. They also loved spending time with their grandchildren. In her spare time, Laura researched genealogy, was a voracious reader, enjoyed cooking, gardening, listening to music, and playing board games.
In addition to her mother and husband, she will be deeply missed by her children Erin Harris and husband, Jim, of Dayton, VA, Dr. Marissa Albert of Richmond, VA, and Kyle Albert of Dayton, VA; her brother Allen Muir and wife, Karin, of Lewistown; her sisters Karen Muir and fiancée, William Kehler, of Philipsburg, and Megan Grivas and husband, Mike, of Philipsburg; and her grandsons Leon James Harris and Arthur Daniel Harris. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Rebecca Inlow, and her brother-in-law, Brett Albert, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and an infant son, Elliott. A funeral service will be held at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, on Monday, April 4 at 11am with Pastor Catherine Dittman officiating. Laura will be laid to rest at the Philipsburg Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday, April 3 from 3pm until 7pm and on Monday, April 4 from 10am until the hour of service. Those wishing to remember Laura in a special way may send a memorial contribution to Holt Memorial Library, PO Box 702, Philipsburg, PA 16866 or to Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation (NETRF), 31 St. James Avenue, Suite 365, Boston, MA 02116 (or online at www.netrf.org/give).
