Joseph Demchak, 99, formerly of North Philipsburg, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg. Born March 16, 1923 in Osceola Mills, he was a son of George and Mary (Lucak) Demchak. Joe attended Philipsburg High School and was a Republic Steel Worker for 30 years. A veteran of the US Army, he served during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart during the 1945 Germany Rocket Barrage. Joe was a member of Nativity of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Chester Hill, where he was treasurer and the caretaker of the church and the church cemetery. He was also a member of the Philipsburg VFW Louis P. Jenkins Post 3450 and the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post 6. Joe would often be seen walking in Philipsburg or playing a round of golf. He also enjoyed watching sports. He is survived by a brother Carl Demchak and his wife Georgia of North Philipsburg, a sister Suzanna Demchak of Mechanicsburg, a sister in law Monta Lou Demchak of Ohio and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers George Demchak, John Demchak, Theodore Demchak, Eugene Demchak, Stephen Demchak, Michael Demchak and Samuel Demchak, a sister Christine Demchak, several sisters in law and several nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at Nativity of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 420 Laura St., Philipsburg, on Monday, August 1, 2022 at 11:00am with Father Mark Meholick officiating. Internment with military honors will follow at the church cemetery. Friends will be received at the church on Monday, August 1 from 10am until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe’s memory may be made to Nativity of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 420 Laura St., Philipsburg, PA 16866.
