Obituary for John "Dick" Condo

Richard “Dick” Condo, 71, of Philipsburg, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 at his home. Born May 15, 1947 in Philipsburg, he was a son of the late John F. and Hester J. (Shimmel) Condo. Dick was a 1965 graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola High School, where he was the cinderella wrestler that went on to become the PIAA runner-up in 1964. In 1969 he graduated from St. Francis College, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity and wrestled under Coach Tom Vaux. Dick was a History & Civics teacher at West Branch High School for 37 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was on various church committees. For nearly 50 years Dick coached at Tyrone, West Branch and P-O school districts. He was involved with local athletes from elementary to high school; most notably he was the area representative for Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling. When traveling, he observed historical landmarks. In his spare time he enjoyed painting and reading. Most of all, his greatest joy was traveling to watch his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. On June 10, 1972 in Philipsburg, he married Vicki Lynn Wilson, who survives at home. Also surviving are a daughter Gerri Lynn Burns and her husband Mark of Fredericksburg, VA; three sons Kurt Condo and his wife Jill of Thompsontown, PA, William Condo and his wife Jen of LaPlata, MD and Jonathan Condo and his wife Jaclyn of Larkspur, CA; 14 grandchildren Madison, Mackenzie, Mallory, Macy, Maile, Jacob, Jerret, Jason, Jaxen, Kesley, Casem, Grace, Liv and Jack; two sisters Sandy Shover and her husband William of Altoona and Barbara Danner of Alpharetta, GA; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother in law Kenneth Danner and a great niece Carina Barnett. A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Front St. Philipsburg, on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 11am with Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating. Burial will be private in the Philipsburg Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, on Tuesday, October 2nd from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm and at the church on Wednesday, October 3rd from 10am until the hour of service at 11am.
