Obituary for Jean Welker

Jean Delores Welker, 86, of Philipsburg, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021 at her home. Born September 23, 1934 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Pauline (Shimmel) Hassinger. Jean attended the Philipsburg High School and worked in hospitality at the former Presbyterian Home and later at Windy Hill Village. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at Westminster Place and gardening. Jean was of the Methodist faith and was a past member of the Philipsburg B.P.O. Elks Lodge #1173. On September 6, 1965 in Virginia, she married Loren J. Welker Jr., who preceded her in death in November 1998. Jean will be deeply missed by her daughters Kathryn Carson of Philipsburg, Mary Jo Hubler and her husband Ted of Allport, Theresa Croyle of Philipsburg, Bernadette Callahan and her husband Leroy of Morrisdale and Roseanne Weston and her husband Jim of Philipsburg; siblings Irene Young of Ohio, Frank Hassinger and his wife Norma of Bellefonte, Zada Robertson and her husband Norbert of Maryland and an adopted brother Frank Hassinger of Maryland; 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandsons. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a brother Commodore Hassinger, a sister Nancy Mineweaser and a grand pup Maverick. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Christine Roe officiating. Jean will be laid to rest next to her husband in Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Philipsburg. A public celebration of life service will be held at the Philipsburg B.P.O. Elks Lodge #1173, Rt. 322, Philipsburg, on Saturday, May 15th at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jean’s memory may be made to First Lutheran Church, PO Box 377, Philipsburg, PA 16866.
