Obituary for Janet Flack

Janet J. Flack, 84, of Philipsburg, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at UMPC Altoona. Born January 1, 1934 in West Decatur, she was a daughter of the late Homer “Zoo” and Nellie J. (Lumadue) Shaw. Janet was a 1951 graduate of Philipsburg High School. She retired on January 31, 1996 with over 35 years of service as a Senior Executive Secretary from HRB Systems, Inc., Raytheon & E-Systems. Previously she was employed as a Personnel Secretary at Curtiss-Wright Corp. (Quehanna) and as a Payroll Clerk at General Refactories Company in West Decatur. Janet was an avid reader and loved to travel- especially the occasional trips to Salamanca. She enjoyed having get togethers with family and friends and volunteered as class reunion secretary for over 65 years. Janet was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Philipsburg, and was a former member of the Philipsburg Country Club. On December 4, 1953 at Grace United Methodist Church, Philipsburg, by the Rev. Chauncey J. Varner, she married the love of her life, Nelson E. Flack, who passed away September 17, 2016. Janet is survived by a sister Elaine Wisor of West Decatur, two brothers Ronald Shaw of West Decatur and Harold Shaw of Jennerstown, two nieces, six nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews, all of whom were greatly loved. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother Alvin “Mike” Shaw, a sister Bernice, a brother in law Walter Roy “Bucky” Wisor and three sisters in laws Alma, Marlene and Jackie. Funeral services will be held at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 2pm with retired Pastor Mark R. Thumma officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday, February 10 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm and on Sunday, February 11 from 1pm until the hour of service at 2pm.
