Eleanor “Jane” Bryan, 93, of West Decatur, passed away Friday, April 19, 2019 at her home. Born on July 21, 1925 in West Decatur, she was a daughter of Roland “Dip” & Bertha Mae (Fleck) Smeal. Jane was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, West Decatur, and was a member of the Present Helpers sunday school class. She had worked at the former Blue Ball Elementary School, the former General Cigar Factory and at the former McCrory’s. Mostly, she was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for and spending time with all her family. On November 27, 1942 in Winchester, VA, she married Lester L. Bryan, who passed away June 5, 2006. Jane is survived by a daughter Eleanor Kay Bryan of Hawk Run; three sons Thomas L. Bryan and his wife Kathy of Frenchville, William R. Bryan of Philipsburg and Jamie L. Bryan of Philipsburg; a brother Edward Smeal and his wife Anna Mae of Houtzdale; two sisters Betty Fry of Clearfield and Linda Pelton and her husband Thomas of Morrisdale; 9 grandchildren Richard Bryan, Dennis Cole, Kimberly Leigey, Dayna Ferguson, Mike Bryan, Alice Lyn Francisko, Terilee Bryan, Krista Weitosh and Jessyca Burton; 19 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son Lester Jr., three grandchildren Roger Edward Bryan, Jackielyn Bryan and Jill Mitchell; a sister Margaret Smeal and four brothers Roy “Jim” Smeal, Robert “Bobby” Smeal, George “Dick” Smeal and Oliver “Pete” Smeal.
A funeral service will be held at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, on Wednesday, April 24 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Sarah Kim officiating. Jane will be laid to rest at Mock’s Hill Cemetery, West Decatur. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 23 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8pm and on Wednesday, April 24 from 11am to 12pm.
