Obituary for Harold Vaughn

Harold Ellsworth Vaughn, 90, of Philipsburg, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 at his home. Born March 19, 1927 in West Decatur, he was a son of the late Ellsworth Noel & Marjorie Joy (Wood) Vaughn. Harold spent most of his life working in the strippings as a lumber jack, but had also worked at Navasky’s in Philipsburg and a steel mill in New York. A veteran of the US Army, he served during World War II. Harold enjoyed gardening, going to auctions, trains, and spending time with all his grand and great grandchildren. Harold was first married to Jennie Mae (Goss) Vaughn, who passed away in 2003. He later married Margaret A. (Maines) Vaughn, who survives at home. Also surviving are ten children: Marjorie P. Tubbs Knepp and her husband Jeff of Philipsburg, Brenda M. Hohman and her husband Paul of Gearhartville, Donna J. Schwartz of Athens, GA and her former husband Howard Samuel Schwartz of FL, Timothy M. Vaughn and his companion Tracy White, of Supply, NC, Harold W. Vaughn III of Philipsburg, Timothy E. Vaughn II of Philipsburg, Candy M. Vaughn and her companion Kenny Carfley of Hyde, Donald L. Vaughn II of Philipsburg, Dana N. Vaughn of Philipsburg and Dean S. Vaughn of Philipsburg; 16 grandchildren Alexis VanBuren, Brandon Tubbs, Kyle Knepp, Eric Vaughn, Amber, Nicole and Tonya Hohman, Joy Mattocks, Amy Schwartz, Andrea, Casey and Drew Vaughn, Matthew and Katelyn Vaughn and Jenna and Erin Knepp; 24 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; a sister Leah Jane Waring and her husband Luther of Carlisle and his mother in law Gloria Maines of Philipsburg. In addition to his parents and first wife, Harold was preceded in death by a son Harold Randoll “Randy” Vaughn, a brother Donald R. Vaughn and his father in law William H. Maines. A funeral service will be held at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. Michelle R. Bodle officiating. Burial and military honors will be at held at Mock’s Hill Cemetery, West Decatur. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, September 8 from 6-8pm and on Saturday from 10am until the hour of service at 11am.
