Obituary for Ellsworth "Bill" Coble

Ellsworth “Bill” Coble, 79, of Philipsburg passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at home after battling renal cancer. Born July 10, 1943 in Clearfield, he was a son of the late Robert Coble and June (Greaves) Blake. Bill was a 1961 graduate of Philipsburg Osceola High School and served in the US Air Force from 1962 to 1966 as a Morse Code Interceptor on the island of Crete. He retired from the US Postal Service in 2006 after 41 years of service as Postmaster at Philipsburg and West Decatur. After retirement, he worked several part- time jobs as a courier. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, Penn State football, woodworking, watching old western movies and reading. He was a member of the First Church of Christ, Philipsburg, where he had served as a deacon and Board member in the past and was a former member of the Philipsburg Elks. Bill loved his neighbors and was so thankful for their help when his health declined several years ago. He is survived by his wife Janine, whom he married on January 1, 2004; two sons Ryan (Courtney) Coble of Leesburg, VA and Adam Coble (Jacquie Anderson) of Boca Raton, FL; step children Andrea (Brandon) Greenleaf of Altoona and Joshua Adler of Lancaster; three grandsons Colson, Cooper and Jonah Greenleaf of Altoona; two nieces Theresea Blazosky of North Philipsburg and Barbie Harris Blazosky of Dover; a nephew Mark (Julie) Blazosky of North Philipsburg, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his father and mother-in-law Colson and Mary Ellen Jones of Altoona; four sisters in law Sharon (David) Chupa of Unicoi, TN; Michele (Steve) Fries of Lancaster, Julie (Marc) Peters of Narvon and Jennifer (Bob) Myers of Pickens, SC; a half brother Robert (Janice) Coble of Belmont, NY; three half-sisters Gail (Larry) Hodges of North Fort Myers, FL, Patti (Greg) Mehserle of Washoe Valley, NV and Regina (Doug) Yeo of Astor, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother Gracie Ferguson Fye, a sister Sandra F. Foster and a nephew Philip P. Blazosky. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery.
