Obituary for Dr. Raymond Eyerly

Dr. Raymond Werner Eyerly, 82, formerly of Lanse, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield. Born September 8, 1936, in Morrisdale, he was a son of the late Robert L. and Sarah J. (McCliment) Eyerly. Raymond was a graduate of Morris Township High School. He served in the United States Army from 1958–60 as an administrative specialist at Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C. Raymond earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in agricultural economics and rural sociology and a doctoral degree in business administration from the Pennsylvania State University. He began his career at Penn State in 1963 as assistant to the director of the Institute for Research on Land and Water Resources. From 1986 to his retirement in 2002, he served as assistant to the director of the Environmental Resources Research Institute. Raymond also held the position of senior research associate in environmental research and was an assistant professor of business logistics. His research focused primarily on the environmental, economic and social impacts of transportation systems, water development, energy extraction and production and other forms of developmental activities, as well as regional and local planning, business logistics, and property valuation and taxation. He also specialized in proposal development and the administration of sponsored research and was an expert and consultant for the development of software systems modeling for budgeting and management information. Raymond was the author or co-author of over 50 articles and publications, and a member of several professional and honor societies, including the Society for Research Associates (SRA), the National Council of University Research Associates (NCURA), Sigma Xi (The Scientific Research Society), and Beta Gamma Sigma (National Scholastic Honor Society for Business Management).
Raymond was married on September 24, 1960, in Lanse to Mary Ann (Erickson) Eyerly, who preceded him in death on June 10, 2017. Surviving is a daughter Sarah Eyerly and her husband Andy Nathan of Tallahassee, FL; a sister Marilyn Hummel of Clearfield; two brothers, Robert Lee Eyerly and his wife Joy of Erie, and Timothy Eyerly and his wife Kim of Morrisdale; a sister-in-law Helen Eyerly of Erie; two grandsons Jesse Nathan and Ian Nathan of Tallahassee; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother John “Jack” Eyerly, a sister-in-law A. Jean Natoli McKenrick, and a brother-in-law Daniel Hummel. Raymond was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lanse, and the Centre Hill Grange. He enjoyed farming, raising animals, and gardening. Music was an important part of his life. Raymond had a beautiful singing voice and had written several original songs and poems. He was a kind and gentle man with a true passion for Pennsylvania’s history, environment, and communities. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 11:00am at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanse with Pastor Vicki Beilfuss officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 10:00am until the hour of the service. Burial is at the Grassflat Lanse Lutheran Cemetery.
