Obituary for Dorothy Davidsen

Dorothy A. “Dot” Davidsen, 94, passed away Friday, December 10, 2021 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born August 10, 1927 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late George and Janet (Brautigam) Abel. Dot graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and worked as a teacher at Osceola Mills-Rush Consolidated School. She married Raymond Davidsen on November 11, 1950 in Pittsburgh. He preceded her in death in 2014. Dorothy and Ray enjoyed camping and were members of the Mountaineers Chapter of the National Campers and Hikers Association. During their years of camping, they stayed in all of the lower 48 states and also Alaska. To complete visiting all the states, they went on one of Sheldon Sharpless’s trips to Hawaii. In addition to camping, they also enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Chinklacamoose Squares and the 022 Camper Dance Club. She was protestant by faith and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Philipsburg, where she served on the Church Board.
She is survived by two children, Garry (Karen) Davidsen of Smithmill, and Lori (Paul) Rodkey of Ramey; three grandsons, Todd, Adam, and Ryan Reese, two great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and two great-great-granddaughters. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, George Abel, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held at Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc. 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 1pm with Rev. Dr. Katie Hopper officiating. Burial will be in Philipsburg Cemetery. Friends will be received Friday from 11am until the time of service.
