Obituary for Dean Butterworth

Dean M. Butterworth, 85, formerly of Sleepy Hollow, Philipsburg RD, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg. Born March 10, 1933 in Philipsburg, he was a son of Edwin & Mabel Pearl (Irwin) Butterworth. Dean was a 1951 graduate of Philipsburg High School and was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, South Philipsburg. Dean retired from River Hill Coal Company, where he was a heavy equipment repairman. A veteran of the US Army, he served during Korea. On June 24, 1951 in Philipsburg, he married Patricia J. Frank, who passed away May 30, 2008. Dean is survived by two sisters Carol Joan Dimond of Chester Hill and Janet Lou Miller of Lock Haven and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister Theora Williamson and five brothers Irwin L. Butterworth, Maynard Butterworth, Gerald Ray Butterworth, Jon E. “Jack” Butterworth and Eldon E. Butterworth. A funeral service will be held at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 1:00pm with Rev. Scott Hartsock officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday, April 28 from 10:00am until the hour of service at 1:00pm.
