Obituary for Alfred Chieppor

Alfred B. “Alf” Chieppor, 93, formerly of Philipsburg, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Brethren Village Retirement Community, Lititz, PA. Born July 13, 1925 in Philipsburg, he was a son of the late Michel & Mary Rose (Catherine) Chieppor. Alf was a graduate of Philipsburg High School and a 1950 graduate of Penn State University, receiving a degree in Journalism. He was a banker for over 25 years and retired from Federal Savings & Loan. A veteran of the US Navy, he served during WWII. Alf was a member of Ss Peter & Paul Catholic Church; BPOE Elk Lodge #1173 for over 60 years, Rotary & Kiwanis for over 50 years and the Philipsburg Country Club for over 50 years. He was also a long time board member of the former Philipsburg State General Hospital and was active with the Moshannon Valley Economic Development Partnership. Alf enjoyed playing golf, traveling with his wife and attending high school sporting events, particularly P-O softball. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and being a part of their lives and activities. On April 16, 1955 in Philipsburg, he married Kathleen Nancy “Dottie” Stonebraker, who passed away September 25, 2005. Alf is survived by three children Kim Myers and her husband Dermy of Nanty Glo, Michael K. Chieppor and his wife Mary of Cranberry Township and Patrick J. Chieppor and his wife Denise of Lititz; a brother John A. Chieppor and his wife Anna Mae of Philipsburg; and 8 grandchildren Meagan, Emma, Lucas, Kate, Jillian, Jonathan, Peter and Drew. In addition to his parents and wife, Alf was preceded in death by a brother James C. Chieppor. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ss Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 400 S. 4th St., Philipsburg, on Monday, September 24 at 1:00pm with Fr. John Gibbons as celebrant. Friends will be received at the church from 11am-1pm prior to Mass. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
